Random Thoughts

Today our constitution turned 220! Wow! Unfortunately no one knows this. We found out two weeks ago as a result of one of our random discussions. Apparently the young minds of our country don’t know this either (see Yahoo article).

I spent most of the day with my good friend and fellow children’s pastor Miguel Tovar. I know what you may be thinking, but yes, he’s a legal citizen of the US. Well, we purposely went to Popeye’s chicken to get some good ‘ol American food (Cajun styled chicken). It doesn’t get much more American than that. I think it is unfortunate that we don’t remember this date. The 4th of July is a very important date in our country. It was a defining moment where we pushed ourselves away from oppressors and decided what we no longer wanted to be. However, it was on this date, September 17, 1787 that we defined who and what we wanted to be. If it wasn’t for the constitution, things could be quite different than they are today. So today, I’m thankful for my country and thankful for the freedoms that this document guarantees.I guess I’ll end this post with an excerpt from the preamble:

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
