A complicated move

Travel

PalletJack-27x48-New-1 So, we’ve had all kinds of stuff happen, but I’ve been behind the eight ball. We’re leaving Valdosta in two days. Can’t believe our time here is wrapping up. However, most of my attention has been on packing up and figuring out how we’re getting back to Texas. Although we really don’t have that much here, I’ve been baffled to some degree on how to get it to Texas.

Once Sara and I knew that we’d be staying in GA for a while, she flew back to get more of our stuff. She drove back in our truck… and it was loaded full! Then when our house closed, we all flew back to Texas, put the rest of our stuff in storage and drove our other car back to GA. The only issue I’m running into now is that one month ago I sold my tuck. My other car can’t pull a trailer, so I’m kind of stuck. I don’t have enough stuff to really merit renting a U-haul truck, but too much stuff to fit in my car (along with Titus and Francie). So, we’ve been trying to figure out the best way to get our stuff to Texas. Making things a little more difficult is that we’re not moving into a home right away. Until we buy a house, the four of us will be in an Extended Stay. So, even all this stuff we’re trying to figure out how to get to Austin, we don’t really have a place to put it… so that would mean a storage unit in Austin as well as our big one in Fort Worth.

So, for the past two weeks I’ve been looking at freighting our things out to Austin. A family friend gave me some pallets. So, I could pack everything in boxes on two 4×3 pallets. When ready, a truck would come by, load my stuff by forklift and ship it to Austin. It wasn’t until today that I ventured on another option. Valdosta isn’t a big enough town to offer the same services as some of the bigger cities, but I did find one service that will drop off a 24 foot trailer which I have three days to load (I’m only charged for the space that I use) and they’ll take my stuff to where I need it in Austin.

I think we’re going to go with option 2. Since all our stuff is now packed and in the garage at my grandmother’s house, we’re going to let it sit there until we buy a house. Then we’ll have the moving company send a trailer and I’ll have someone from my family load it (literally, we only have like 10-12 boxes and a few totes). Then we’ll have it delivered right to our front door. I can’t wait until we get settled again!!!
